SOCIAL ACTION
Tikkun Olam — Hebrew for "repairing the world" — is an integral part of the Temple Tikvah community. Our social action committee is very active and involved in many ongoing projects.
Recent activities have included:
-
Facilitating the work of the Book Fairies, a not-for-profit organization that collects reading materials for people in need throughout metropolitan New York
-
Providing holiday gifts in December to communities in need, especially to teens in the foster care system.
-
Coordinating with other arms of the temple to create and carry out mitzvot opportunities, such as a
Mitzvah Day, Mitzvah of the Month, and goody bags for guests of our annual Golden Age Luncheon -
Support worthy causes such as the MS Society, Celebrate Israel Parade, and the Interfaith Nutritional Network (INN).
-
Creating care packages and collecting needed items for veterans
-
“Greening” our community and teaching our community about climate change and what we can do to protect our environment
